Elco Electric Propulsion Systems
"The EP “Pure Electric” System uses only batteries so there is no gas, diesel, or oil aboard this vessel. The electric motor requires no maintenance and has an expected service life of 50,000 hours. The Pure Electric is perfect for sailboats and other displacement and semi-displacement hulls.
The Elco EP Motor is pure torque, unlike a diesel that uses belts, pulleys, and many other moving parts. The diesel engines moving parts create losses in torque and on average, only 40%-60% of the power created is actually used to propel your vessel. –Further, the motor only reaches full torque at one particular point in the torque curve.
An Elco EP Motor contains only one moving part and provides full torque throughout most of the torque curve. The EP motor provides full torque at 1RPM, all while operating in complete silence."
Elco EP Motor Benefits
No exhaust fumes produced
Silent motor operation – No noise pollution
Recyclable batteries
Very small carbon footprint if charged by the solar or wind power options
Cruise all day and charge the batteries overnight for just pennies
The motor fits standard engine mounts
Never needs a tune-up; no need to winterize
Available for conventional shaft connection applications and sail drive units
The motor is water and particle resistant
The patented enclosure ensures that the motor runs cool so it will not heat up the cabin
Great reliability, with an operational service life of 50,000+ hours before scheduled maintenance
More than twice the cruising range than an equivalent diesel engine in a hybrid system
